We stayed at a hotel in Lindau, Germany that had a sign saying, “guests are please to wear clothes in the restaurant.”
I think they meant that guests must dress nicely for the restaurant, which was indeed rather posh. The sign had a little picture of a man wearing a jacket and tie with arrows pointing to the tie and coat.
