One way to avoid pickpockets!

These two men were just strolling down La Rambla, in Barcelona, one fine summer day in 2007. This is one way to avoid pickpockets.

  3. Yes, I experienced a pick pocketing attempt as well….which I was able to foil. However I am somewhat aghast at the attitude of many writers who infer that the tourist is at fault for an attmpted robbery by not being aware of the proper dress, look, method of protecting money, etc. when travelling to Barcelona. Personally the way to deter theft is to motivate the Spanish authorities by boycotting Barcelona. A paucity of tourists will change the lackadasical spirit of police and the courts. And coming from the states I am aware of many robberies (and let’s not tivialize this act by calling it “pick pocketing”)where the use of a weapon in a robbery is common place. These types of crimes progress to where a weapon will be the next “distraction”. Make the Spanish respond to this problem by boycotting Barcelona….there are many other destinations for the traveler that are nearly robbery free and worry free.
