There's not much to see but ordinary life, which is what some of us feel is the most interesting part of travel. I brought a couple of friends with me on one walkaround in Colon, and they were fascinated and enthralled (also, granted, a bit scared). A bus tour (of any city) gives one a superficial view of select "tourist-worthy" sites. Walking with guides, especially those who know the dangers of a place, gives the visitor an honest look at real life. Obviously, this is not for everyone. And there's no guarantee of safety!
